Jimmy Bain

Jimmy Bain

Legendary metal bass player Jimmy Bain was born in the tiny village of Newtonmore in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. There was always music in the Bain house, both his parents played music and continued to do so well into their eighties. By the age of thirteen Jimmy had his own band "The Sinners" but when he saw & heard "The Beatles" he understood that music would be what he wanted to do with his life.

His first break came in 1975 when "Deep Purple" guitarist "Ritchie Blackmore" hired him to play in his new band "Rainbow".He recorded one studio album "Rainbow Rising" and one live album "Onstage" and toured the world with them. His next project was "Wild Horses" with "Thin Lizzy" guitarist "Brian Robertson". The two Scots wrote all the songs and Jimmy moved up to singing as well as bass. They were a very popular band touring throughout Europe to promote their two EMI releases .

In 1982 Jimmy moved to Los Angeles to start "Dio" with former ‘Rainbow' singer ‘Ronnie James Dio'. The first release "Holy Diver" is considered to be one of the finest metal albums ever. This band was one of the busiest recording and touring groups in the eighties. Jimmy also worked on sessions playing on Kate Bush's "The Dreaming", The Scorpions "Love At First Sting", Gary Moore's "Dirty Fingers" and John Cale's "Animal Justice". More recently Jimmy has been working with Mandy Lion in "World War III", with Vinny Appice in 3 Legged Dogg and his solo band "The Key" all of which are ongoing and current.
