Fredrik Nyberg (a.k.a. DJ Nibc)

Gothenburg-born DJ, producer and Trunkfunk Records label owner Fredrik Nyberg has long been a key player in Sweden’s music scene. As DJ Nibc, and with his collaborative projects Stuffa and Tyken, he is constantly innovating, seeking versatile sounds and dancefloor destroyers.

By the mid 90s DJ Nibc had fallen for house music, and he began hosting Breeze, a weekly deep house radio show on K103 in Gothenburg in 1999. By the turn of the decade he was playing regularly at legendary clubs throughout Gothenburg, and was voted Best DJ of 2003 by Yo Media, also ranking #7 in Scandanavia’s 100 Best DJ’s Poll of the same year hosted by megamind.se.

DJ Nibc soon became a leading conceptual force within many of Gothenburg’s clubs, including Baby, Bagheera, and the award-winning nights RA & VS. He remains closely connected to the city, as the host and resident DJ of the The Eye parties at The Nefertiti club, which have put Gothenburg on the musical map by attracting heavyweight international talent such as Carl Craig, Moodymann & Radioslave. He has also been invited to DJ around the world, at festivals, radio stations and clubs in New York, Miami, London, Berlin, Paris, Rio De Janeiro, Ibiza and Barcelona, and most notably in Tokyo’s infamous Womb Club.

In 2000 DJ Nibc established his Trunkfunk Records imprint. Trunkfunk quickly became one of Sweden’s most in demand independent labels, with releases from Stuffa, The Touch, David Ekenbäck, Tyken and Trevor Loveys and remixes from influential artists like Jesse Rose, John Dahlbäck, Ramon Tapia & DJ Assault. Showcasing both the underground sound of Gothenburg and DJ Nibc’s supreme A&R skills, Trunkfunk has won support from the likes of DJ Koze, Roger Sanchez and Annie Mac.

In 2001 DJ Nibc released his debut single Deliverance, which signaled his arrival as a new artist to be reckoned with on the house scene, receiving universal acclaim from both DJs and press alike. His innate understanding of hip hop history has helped him infuse his productions with urban elements in the studio, while his expertise as a DJ gives his tracks a natural affinity with the dancefloor.

Shortly after Deliverance he teamed up with Carl Rydén, and under the name Tyken they delivered the Ministry of Sound release Every Word, an across-the-board success that topped
DJ charts and radio playlists around the globe.

After the certified success of Every Word, DJ Nibc refused to rest on his laurels, and soon formed Stuffa, a seminal pairing with Jonas Rathsman, to explore a new musical direction and
sound. Stuffa’s first single A Million Secrets from their forthcoming debut album looks set to rival the cult following that their anthem Pretty Girls generated in the summer of 2008, as indicated by DJ T. who selected the track to feature in his recent contribution to the Fabric mix series.

DJ Nibc has expertly combined commercial success with underground credibility throughout his career, and since relocating to Berlin in 2008, his focus on furthering his productions and developing his label is intensifying, assuring that 2010 will be another landmark year for both DJ Nibc and Trunkfunk Records.
