Puma choose Pepe Deluxe
September 23, 2014
Puma have chosen a song by Pepe Deluxe from the Brighton based Catskills label, worldwide admin courtesy of District 6 Music Publishing, for their new worldwide advertising campaign.
The campaign, titled Forever Faster features fastest man on the planet, Usain Bolt and a host of other sporting celebrities in a humorous, fast-paced film.
Puma describe their mission thus - (We aim) to be the fastest sports brand in the world. Through endless pursuit to push the sports world forward, we are Forever Faster. Not fast. Faster. Faster is more determined. It trusts its instincts, not the rules. It’s brave. It’s confident. Faster reminds the world what it means to play. Then wins it all, breaks records, breaks them again, and takes a victory lap.
We feel this perfectly describes District 6.
City Slang sign Cristobal & The Sea
06 June 2014
We are very excited (yup, we're always excited) to announce that Cristobal & The Sea have signed a record deal with the Berlin based zeitgeist label, City Slang, home to artists such as Arcade Fire, Magic Numbers, Calexico, Tindersticks, Port O'Brien, Alexi Murdoch & many others. With Cristobal's very european connection, the pan-european label is somehow a perfect home for the band.
The week of 9 June will see the band recording their first official EP in London's Strongrooms, to be produced and mixed by Brooklyn based Rusty Santos, renowned maverick indie producer of such luminary acts as Animal Collective (their breakthrough, critically lauded album "Sun Tongs"), Grizzly Bear, Black Dice and Owen Pallet, to name a few.
At the end of the week Cristobal will be performing at The Paradise in Kensal Rise, fresh out of the studio, on stage at 9.15, Sunday 15 June, be sure to catch what will be their first (and quite possbly last before the summer holidays) London show in a couple of months, it is going to be a very special set.
It may very well also be their last free show, so see you there !
Sterns Music worldwide admin deal
May 23, 2014
We're excited to announce a worldwide admin deal with the pioneering world music label and publisher, Sterns Music, bringing one of the very finest back catalogues, both publishing and masters, of African and Brazilian music into the D6 fold.
Sterns, initially Sterns African Records, was at the vanguard of the 1980s world music explosion, releasing Salif Keïta's seminal album "Soro" and going on to bring a multitude of African artists to western ears - Youssou N'Dour's Etoile de Dakar, Orchestra Baobab, Ghana's Super Sweet Talks, Senegalese salseros Africando, Congolese super group Kékélé, Mali's immense griote diva Kandia Kouyate - the list goes on and on. And on.
When the new wave of Brazilian artists began to make waves in Europe, it was again Sterns who were amongst the first to blaze the trail, mostly via their relationship with the forward looking, futuristic São Paolo label, YBrasil. Unfamiliar artists and bands such as Rica Amabis, Instituto, Sabotage, DJ Dolores, Anvil FX, a revamped, hard-hitting, post Chico Science Naçao Zumbi, and more latterly São Paolo star Criolo (click here for his latest video).
This is fantastic music for a myriad of licensing opportunities, particularly TV and film but also commercials and online. As we head into the World Cup, and soon enough the Olympic games in Rio, Brazilian music is not unsurprisingly capturing the cultural zeitgeist.
You can grab a flavour of these exceptional catalogues on spotify - Africa and Brazil.

Cristobal & The Sea
October 17, 2013
District 6 are proud and excited to have signed a publishing deal with new UK band, Cristobal & The Sea.
Cristobal and the Sea are Iberians Alé Romero, João Seixas and French (Corsican) Leila Séguin, 3 international students who met at Loughborough University whilst studying architecture, philosophy and international studies respectively. Alé, originally from Spain and João, from Portugal were acquaintances at college in Luxembourg, becoming friends once they arrived in the UK in 2011. Here they also met their muse and fellow bandmate, Leila, and spent the year discovering each other musically and personally, and witnessed an unusually intimate and like-minded connection.
They duly turned 1 of their 2 student digs rooms into a music studio and spent every free hour jamming, writing, recording (with the cheapest, most readily available equipment, resorting to a £ 7 skype microphone for vocals) and developing their very unique style and sound. They describe it as tropicalia dream pop, and you can totally hear what they mean.
You can appreciate their huge range of influences, from Beach Boys (with a particular nod to that group's groundbreaking Pet Sounds album) to Beach House, from Fleet Foxes to Vampire Weekend and from Jobim to Gainsbourg.
Young, enormously gifted, beautifully boho, hugely charismatic and incredibly laid back, they are devouring life as only the young and carefree know how.

Roy Harper to release "Man And Myth" on Bella Union
July 4, 2013
District 6 are thrilled to announce the new album from Roy Harper has been signed to Bella Union and will be available from 23rd September.
"Man And Myth", Roy’s first studio album in 13 years, isn’t just proof that one of the leading, most erudite and passionate orators of the British folk rock renaissance hasn’t lost an iota of his gifts, but also timely evidence for anyone who has wondered why so many musical luminaries have been lining up to praise this enigmatic and legendary singer-songwriter.
In 2011, Harper performed a special show at the Royal Festival Hall in celebration of his 70th birthday, where those who joined on stage included Joanna Newsom, (new label mate) Jonathan Wilson and Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, who famously penned a tribute called ‘Hats Off To Harper’ (Led Zeppelin III). David Gilmour not only played on record and stage for Harper, but Pink Floyd engaged him to sing ‘Have A Cigar’ on the band’s landmark album Wish You Were Here. Fellow collaborator Kate Bush has called Harper “one of the greatest English songwriters” while the late John Peel declared, on his death, that cricket obsessive Harper’s “When An Old Cricketer Leaves The Crease” be played at his funeral. Johnny Marr, meanwhile, has stated that Harper’s 1971 opus Stormcock was “intense and beautiful and clever.”
Four of the seven tracks from Man And Myth were recorded with Jonathan Wilson at his studio in Laurel Canyon. The recently discovered keeper of the West Coast rock flame had been assembling a Harper tribute album and the two struck up a friendship after being introduced to each other by District 6 backstage at Wilson’s show (Bella Union boss Simon Raymonde was also present) at London’s Borderline in 2012. ‘Heaven Is Here’ and ’The Exile’, the album’s epic closing tracks, and ‘January Man” were subsequently recorded back in County Cork.
Man And Myth is incontrovertible proof to everyone of Roy Harper’s persisting brilliance, with many hallmarks of what has singled him out since his first album 47 heady years ago.
Bump By Baby Blue
June 20, 2013
Following the chart and airplay success (top 10 most played on Radio 1 this year) of Baby Blue's feature on Matrix & Futurebound's "Magnetic Eyes", the London based artist's solo campaign is back with a "Bump".
Produced by Swedish duo Quiz & Larossi (Saturdays, Kelly Clarkson, Conor Maynard, JLS) and co-written by Ina Wroldsen (Leona Lewis, One Direction, Britney Spears), "Bump" is a huge slice of urban pop and showcases Blue's sweet singing voice over and above her already well known rapping skills.
Already sitting on the 1Xtra, Choice and Kiss playlists and with the first Radio 1 spins under way, "Bump" looks set to pick up where "Magnetic Eyes" left off. Due for release 28th July.
